Mk.gee has become very popular this year — but is he popular enough to troll his own fans? He's about to find out, because he's begun playing his song "DNM" multiple times per concert, mostly recently playing the track a whopping 12 times.
On Saturday (October 5) at Minneapolis, MN's Uptown theatre, he played "DNM" a dozen times; 10 of those were consecutive, and then he did a couple other songs before closing with "DNM" twice. He only played 12 other songs, meaning that exactly half of the setlist consisted of "DNM."
Footage from the night, which fans posted on TikTok, shows the songwriter born Michael Todd Gordon, trolling fans by introducing the song as if he's going to play something else before launching back in "DNM."
Judging by the footage, most fans bought into the gimmick — but one TikTok caption reads, "11th or 12th playthrough of DNM, buddy next to me was not as excited anymore." Honestly, fair enough!
Mk.gee has been playing "DNM" a lot lately, but 12 times seems to be a new record. He's been habitually playing it five or six times per night, including five times in Toronto on October 1.
"DNM" comes from Mk.gee's 2024 album Two Star & the Dream Police. It's not a hit; it wasn't released as a single, and it sits in the middle of the album in terms of streams — so this is a little different from when Kanye West and JAY-Z took to playing their song "N—s in Paris" multiple times a night during their Watch the Throne tour, or when Travis Scott played "goosebumps" repeatedly back in 2017.
