MGMT Announce 'Little Dark Age' Album with Teaser Video

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 7, 2017

With spring upon us, we can once again hear the strains of "Kids" and "Time to Pretend" blaring out of open car windows everywhere. Meanwhile, the psych-pop duo behind those decade-old hits, MGMT, are preparing to release a new album, and they've just shared a teaser clip along with confirming the LP's title.

In an Instagram post, MGMT announced that the album will be called Little Dark Age. The accompanying video contains footage of the band at work in the studio along with surreal images of fireworks, landscapes and glitchy computer effects. This is all soundtracked by an instrumental piece of funk-tinged electro-pop.

This follows a recent email newsletter in which the band promised that their upcoming tour would include "New songs from our new album that you will newly hear this year." The tour schedule includes a few Canadian festivals; see the dates below.

Last year, Mac DeMarco was photographed recording with MGMT, and while he was slightly coy about what they were working on, he suggested it wasn't for MGMT's new album. It remains to be seen whether he pops up on Little Dark Age.

This album will be MGMT's first since 2013's self-titled effort.
