Megan Bonnell recently released her new single "Breakup" and now the song has been treated to a deceptively vibrant music video.
The track follows Bonnell's 2018 album Separate Rooms, and the video arrives courtesy of director Brittany Farhat.
"I wanted this track to feel like a roadmap to a breakup…but in a more mature sense," Bonnell tells Exclaim! "These aren't the same emotions that you feel from that first teenage heartbreak."
"We are older now, so dealing with a breakup can be very different," she adds. "So many more questions to deal with — who gets to keep the apartment, when do you tell your group of friends, who gets to keep the plants, and how do we do this in a clean way? It's a commitment to get through it all, but you come out on the other side stronger for it."
The time-lapse style of the video captures the protagonist at different points in the emotional rollercoaster of a breakup, as the lyrics to the song are projected on the pink walls around her.
