Matt Andersen has cracked open his big bottle of joy. Titled after his band, his latest record, The Big Bottle of Joy, is out today via Sonic Records.
Blending blues rock, "rollicking Americana, thoughtful folk and ecstatic gospel," Andersen's latest was written with his exact band members in mind, with the bandleader arranging tracks and instrumentation to best showcase each musician's skillset. Andersen's grandiose eight-piece ensemble features Reeny Smith, Haliey Smith, Micah Smith (vocals), Geoff Arsenault (drums), Mike Farrington Jr (bass), Cory Tetford (guitar), Kim Dunn (piano) and Chris Kirby (organ).
"Somebody told me a long time ago that when you put a band together, you need to make yourself the weakest musician," Andersen said. "So that's always what I've done. And they're all just absolutely monstrous at what they do."
Alongside The Big Bottle of Joy's release, Andersen has shared a video of a live performance of the album's latest single, "Let It Slide," from the Sonic Temple — where the album was recorded.

Andersen and his band will tour Canada coast-to-coast starting this month. They'll hit London, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Moncton, Saint John, Halifax and plenty of cities in between. See his complete tour schedule here.
