Look Vibrant

"Last One to Survive" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 12, 2018

Look Vibrant are getting ready to release their debut full-length later this month, and the Montreal-based band have teased The Up Here Place with another single.

Coming via a new music video, "Last One to Survive" retells the story of band member Justin Lazarus getting mugged in the suburbs as a teen — from the perspective of the mugger.

Lazarus notes that from the moment he saw the mugger and his group approaching him, he could tell the perpetrators were "bored high schoolers." Turning the experience into a song, Lazarus surmises that the mugger was upholding a sense of duty and teaching kids about the harsh realities of the world.

"I don't believe anyone can do something unhinged without some self-justification, however delusional," Lazarus tells Exclaim! "I needed to write this song in order to come to terms with this moment in my past — I needed to find empathy for the cartoonish thug of my embellished memory in order to consider it finally settled."

See the Lazarus immortalize his frightening past experience by watching the video for "Last One to Survive" below.

The Up Here Place will be self-released on March 23. Ahead of the album's release, Look Vibrant will be playing a series of U.S. show. You can also see those below.
