Lisa LeBlanc has returned with details of a new album. The New Brunswick singer-songwriter will share third studio LP Chiac Disco on March 18 via Bonsound.
Produced by LeBlanc and Benoît Morier, Chiac Disco is said to play out very much in line with its title: as an "improbable encounter" between disco music and the Acadian French language; a place "where glamour meets rurality."
Inspired by the grooves of Lee Hazlewood and William Onyeabor, and music of Chic and James Brown, LeBlanc's latest captures the exhilaration of music-making in total freedom, with little fretting over guilty pleasures.
New song "Entre toi pi moi pi la corde de bois," which tackles our obsession with productivity, arrives today alongside a stop-motion video from director Philippe Beauséjour. For the accompanying visuals, Beauséjour drew inspiration from '70s aesthetics, Beatles film Yellow Submarine and the work of Terry Gilliam, adding in a statement, "I visualized faux wood walls and experienced a strange nostalgia of cigarette scent, imbued in the wallpaper and shaggy, olive-coloured rugs."
LeBlanc will also take the album on tour throughout Quebec and Ontario in 2022, which you can find dates for below. Chiac Disco is now available for pre-order.
Chiac Disco follows LeBlanc's 2016 album Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen?, which was shortlisted for the 2017 Polaris Music Prize. In 2020, the artist released It's Not a Game, It's a Lifestyle as Belinda.
Earlier this year, LeBlanc spoke with Exclaim! about the Acadian music scene in Canada's Maritime provinces. After reading, go even deeper with our list of "New Acadian Classics for Your First East Coast Kitchen Party."
