Calgary art-pop outfit Lab Coast are readying their latest LP Remember the Moon for release next week, but before the full record arrives, Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to the entire thing.
The album features previous singles "Bored Again" and "Helen Bach," but also serves up a dozen more tracks that let the listener dive deeper into the band's oddball indie rock sound.
Singer David Laing and multi-instrumentalist Chris Dadge teamed up to string the songs together, taking their inspiration from an array of strange instruments that found their way into the band's practice space.
Effect-drenched guitars, rubbery bass parts, cello, violin, a hybrid of sampled and live drum parts, pitchshifted percussion, sax, banjo, and organ are just some of the musical components that converge to create Lab Coast's unique blend of layered, lo-fi sounds.
A theme of longing to escape the monotony of the present ("Bored Again," "Wish We Were Anywhere," "Away from Here") permeates the record — but you can escape that fate yourself by entertaining your ears and giving Remember the Moon an advanced spin in the player below.
The LP is officially out on April 29 via Wyatt Records, and as previously reported, Lab Coast have a lot of Canadian tour dates on the horizon. You can see all those below.
