What's my age again? What's the year again? Is punk about to go crunk again? These are all follow-up questions that this news may very well beg: Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan are joining forces on a new single.
"Young & Dumb" is set for release on Friday (May 9), ahead of the band joining the Motherfucking Princess on the US leg of her 2025 Greatest Hits Tour. They teased it on TikTok today with a clip filmed on and around the bunks of a tour bus, Lavigne and Pierre Bouvier lip-syncing their shared vocals without once managing to make eye contact. It seems beyond inevitable that they'll perform this crunchy, percussion-driven throwback anthem together at All Your Friends Fest next month.
"Its [sic] really a full circle moment because not only did [Simple Plan] tour with me last year on the Greatest Hits Tour but we also toured together in 2003 on my first arena tour, when I was 18 and touring my first album Let Go," Lavigne shared on social media. "We were so young, all from small towns in Canada and put our first albums out at the same time. We became friends right away.
She continued, "A few months ago, I called them up and they joined me in the studio to write 'Young & Dumb.' We wanted the song to capture the nostalgic feelings of this unique moment in our lives when we were both just starting out and chasing our dreams. We wanted our fans to know that in our hearts, we're still the same kids we were back then and that our love for music has never changed. This song is about our friendship and how music has kept us connected all these years."
There's something about the use of the Impact Font and the Picnik-style paint splatter photo effects that were hastily added to the single artwork that really does pique the purest form of nostalgia. Should we all start wearing knee-high Converse?
