Jaunt

'Cue' (EP stream)

BY Matt BobkinPublished Apr 9, 2018

When we spoke to Toronto-based experimental pop band Jaunt at the start of the year, they seemed poised for a big 2018. So far, so good: they played Exclaim! and Ticketfly's Class of 2018 concert series in January, and now they're set to release their second EP, Cue. The EP doesn't drop until Friday (April 13), but you can enjoy it a few days early with our exclusive stream.

Serving as a companion piece of sorts to last year's Chat EP, which explored the pitfalls of modern communication, Cue turns its gaze inward for fourteen minutes of introspection, doubt and self-reflection, influenced by works by Stereolab, Nat King Cole, Joni Mitchell and Kashif.

According to band member Duncan Hood, Cue introduces new techniques such as "dryer, more subtle textures, high-contrast mixing [and] acoustic instruments" to the band's repertoire. It also stands as the band's most collaborative effort to date.

Cue features guest vocals from Caitlin Woelfle-O'Brien (who records as Blunt Chunks) and Mauno's Eliza Niemi. Additional drums on "Best Case" were recorded at Studio69 with the help of BADBADNOTGOOD's Alex Sowinski.

Scroll past the band's upcoming tour dates and listen to Cue. Read more from our chat with Jaunt here.
