Liz Harris has announced her first album as Grouper since 2018. The nine-song Shade will be released October 22 through Kranky.

Shade's tracks were recorded by Harris over a 15-year period. Sessions took place during a self-made residency on California's Mount Tamalpais, in Portland years before that, and more recently during sessions in Astoria.

Harris characterizes her 12th full-length as one concerning "respite, and the coast, poetically and literally." A first taste can be heard below with the meditative "Unclean Mind"

Shade is Harris' first album as Grouper since 2018's Grid of Points. In 2019, she released double LP After its own death / Walking in a spiral towards the house as Nivhek, which landed her among Exclaim!'s 10 Best Experimental Music Figures of 2019.

Earlier this year, Harris contributed to a new album from Xiu Xiu.
