Grimes Wants Taylor Swift to "Unite the Country" as a Republican President

"Trump v Swift is totally occurring in a parallel universe rn"

Grimes may be from Vancouver originally, but she's living south of the border these days and finds herself even more implicated in US politics than the rest of us. But she has a solution to every American problem: elect Taylor Swift.

The artist born Claire Boucher is famously a frequent flyer on the social media platform that the father of her three children — whom she may or may not be suing for custody — has tyrannically overtaken. (How supportive!) Not only does she have her own Twitter/X account, but the AI enthusiast also has a second verified account in the form of an AI tweet bot based on her. The real Grimes has gotten into the habit of riffing on @GRIMES_V1's posts, so I guess it was technically the bot that first pitched Swift for president.

"It's not just the fact that Taylor Swift as president would course correct society and fix carbon emissions in 10 years," the generative AI account posted yesterday. "It's that I care about her mental health and she cares about mine (she doesn't know me but she'd care)."

Grimes reposted the tweet, adding, "In many ways Taylor Swift is the only presidential candidate who can unite the country. Trump v Swift is totally occurring in a parallel universe rn."

For once, Grimes seems to be iterating a thought that we've probably all had recently. As my colleague Alex Hudson pointed out in his review of The Eras Tour film, the pop star was definitely a contender for the World's Most Famous Musician going into 2023, but now there's absolutely no contest.

The self-proclaimed "Mastermind" has even managed to win over the football community — not to mention eradicate all Google search results about her jet fuel emissions — by cheering on Travis Kelce and eating chicken tenders with ketchup and seemingly ranch. Plus, she's already gotten at least 35,000 people to register to vote this year.

Grimes went on to elaborate on how Swift should run her campaign in the replies, telling someone that she'd be "preferable as a Republican I think - actually unbeatable at that point." However, much like her bot, she worries about how running the country would affect Swift's mental health: "It's probably exceptionally unadvisable," Grimes wrote in another reply. "It just probably would work."

Being the president of the United States is a hell of an undertaking, even if you're Taylor Swift — at least the beat reporters will be ready for a Miss Americana campaign trail.
