Figure Walking

'The Big Other' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 20, 2017

Winnipeg songsmith Greg MacPherson recently revealed plans for his debut album with Figure Walking, and now Exclaim! is giving you a chance to listen to The Big Other in its entirety a whole week ahead of release.

As previously reported, Figure Walking brings together the Polaris-nominated MacPherson with drummer Rob Gardiner to present "big ideas" supported by a sonic backdrop of "dance beats, electric guitar, and storytelling."

The 10-song collection finds the pair drawing on issues of social justice and declaring "ownership of what we're bringing into the world, with an eye on a better future."

That message of creating harmony both at home and abroad translates through songs like "Submarine," "Blue World" and "Singapore," not to mention the previously shared heartbreaker "Victorious." "Funeral," meanwhile, closes the record on a note that acknowledges the impending end with a surprising sense of optimism and gang chants of, "Let's just try to celebrate, dance until this all makes sense."

Begin to try making sense of it all by giving The Big Other an early listen in the player below. The LP is officially out on April 28 through Disintegration Records, and you'll find Figure Walking's upcoming live shows down below, as well.
