Not to be confused with the Brooklyn group of the same name, Montreal's Family Band live up to their name as a collaborative effort between siblings Josh and Talia Boguski. The former moonlights in bands like Telstar Drugs and Whitney K, while the latter is a trained jazz singer. Together, they've made something fairly remarkable in their debut album.
Family Band '15 offers seven diverse tracks of weird, outsider pop music. The instrumentation is all over the place, but the songwriting and production are so well done that the final result is riveting rather than distracting. With the additional help of contributors Raff McMahan and Alex Lavoie, the album is a collaborative mess of efforts with a truly singular vision.
