Ed Sheeran is sitting pretty atop the Canadian charts thanks to his latest album ÷, but the Taylor Swift psychic is looking to expand his résumé with an upcoming onscreen venture. Taking things in about the exact opposite direction of his bubblegummy pop tunes, Sheeran will guest star in an upcoming episode of Game of Thrones.
The news broke yesterday (March 12) at a SXSW panel with show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and castmates Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner.
"For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie," Benioff said. "And this year we finally did it."
Details about the appearance are being kept pretty secretive still, but an HBO representative did confirm the cameo, telling Variety: "He has a role. No more details."
Perhaps Sheeran's encounter with a sword to his face at a Royal Family function last year was all part of his elaborate training for the show.
As previously reported, Season 7 of Game of Thrones premieres on July 16 on HBO.
