Here's a match made in synth heaven (or possibly hell) — French touch masters Daft Punk are joining forces with giallo film master Dario Argento to score his next project.
Argento is set to direct a new film called Occhiali Neri (or, in English, Black Glasses). The project will star his daughter, Asia Argento.
Speaking with Repubblica [via The Film Stage], Argento revealed that he'd hired Daft Punk to contribute music to the film.
"They are my admirers, they know all my cinema," Argento said. "They heard from French friends that I was shooting a new film and called me [to say], 'We want to work with you.'"
Argento added that Daft Punk will submit their first tracks to him soon, then come visit him in Rome when it's safe to travel.
As for the plot of Occhiali Neri, Argento added, "It will be my return to crime films. It's the adventure, in the nocturnal Rome, of a Chinese girl and child. In the second part, the escape takes them into the rocky, bushy countryside of Lazio. [It's] different from the sweetness of the Tuscan valleys, but for me beautiful."
Production on the film had been set to start in May, but Argento is now hoping to start shooting in September.
As previously reported, Argento also talked about a Netflix project in 2019 called Longinus, which was described as a episodic drama. So far, though, no further details have been revealed.
Argento last released a film in 2012 with his Dracula 3D.
