Continuing the journey they started back in the '90s, long-running Nebraskan emo vets Cursive have just announced their latest LP, I Am Gemini.
The band's longtime label home of Saddle-Creek will issue the record on February 21. A press release from the imprint explains that the new album, Cursive's seventh overall, is a concept record about twin brothers named Cassius and Pollock that were separated at birth.
"One good and one evil, their unexpected reunion in a house that is not a home ignites a classic struggle for the soul, played out with a cast of supporting characters that includes a chorus of angels and devils, and twin sisters conjoined at the head," the statement summarizes of the story.
Band leader Tim Kasher wrote the record's 13 songs in a linear fashion before heading out to Omaha's ARC Studios with the rest of the troupe for recording sessions with producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Minus the Bear). The record was then mixed at Seattle's Red Room.
Touted as both "moody and playfully sinister," I Am Gemini is described as the outfit's heaviest record in years and features "alternately muscular and angular guitars, pounding drums and driving bass." You can check the tracklisting below.
Cursive will be taking the new tunes out on the road shortly before the record drops, and will be stopping in Canada once at Vancouver's Media Club on February 18. You can check the rest of the dates below as well.
