Ahead of their first Grammys weekend as a band, boygenius announced during two secret acoustic sets at the Smell in Los Angeles last night (February 1) that they're going on hiatus.

"We're going away for the foreseeable future," Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker reportedly said. Representatives for the supergroup have since confirmed the news to Pitchfork.

With their debut full-length, last year's the record, boygenius are up for six awards at this year's Grammys (and they think it's weird that they're not competing against Mitski in any of the categories). Amid their respective solo careers, the trio initially came together in 2018 before a shared tour, recording and releasing a self-titled EP

boygenius's triumphant return to both the studio and the road in 2023 easily made them one of the year's defining bands, which included landing on the cover of Exclaim! Magazine.
