Nick Gordon, the former partner of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, died earlier this year and now the cause of death has been revealed.

According to Florida medical examiners, he died from a heroin overdose. An autopsy lists the cause of death as heroin toxicity.

Caffeine, morphine and naloxone (the drug that reverses opioid overdoses) were also found in his system.

Gordon died on January 1 at the age of 30.

Gordon had lived with Houston and Bobbi Kristina following the singer's divorce from Bobby Brown. He referred to Houston as "mom."

Houston died in 2012 at the age of 48 from an accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub.

Gordon and Bobbi Kristina went public with their romance after Houston died. They announced their engagement in 2012 and revealed they had married in 2014. Bobby Brown's lawyer denied the reports in 2015, claiming that Bobbi Kristina "is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon."

Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unresponsive in a bathtub in 2015 and died after being in a coma for six months. She was 22. Morphine, cocaine and alcohol were discovered in her system, but the coroner was unable to determine if her death was self-inflicted, the act of somebody else or accidental.

Gordon was later found responsible in a wrongful death lawsuit and ordered to pay $36 million USD to Bobbi Kristina's estate.
