Mike and Nate Kinsella of beloved emo stalwarts American Football have announced their debut album as LIES.
The self-titled record arrives March 31 via Polyvinyl / Big Scary Monsters. American Football released their most recent album, American Football (LP 3), in 2019, after which Mike Kinsella released his solo debut The Avalanche as Owen in 2020. He and Nate formed LIES last year, sharing a trickle of singles over the past nine months leading up to today's album announcement and the release of "Resurrection."
"I'm not used to putting any gold-linings or much of any positive spin into my songs (there's already enough of that garbage existing in the world)," Mike said of the new track, "but writing about conquering whatever shame and guilt I have for whatever wants and desires I have, felt cathartic / almost therapeutic for me. The process of writing it and expressing the value in actually believing it has helped me feel more confident and assured with who I am and what I want (dare I say, 'need'...)."
"Resurrection" shows a full embrace of M83-esque synths and drum machines, but retains the introspective, tender songwriting Mike brings to American Football and Owen.
