Adult. Announce 'The Way Things Fall'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 6, 2013

While Detroit electro duo Adult. recently served up a deluxe reissue of their 2001 set Resuscitation, the group are now ready to jump into the present with their first new album in six years, titled The Way Things Fall. The act's fifth full-length, and first since 2007's Why Bother?, officially arrives May 14 through Ghostly International.

A press release notes that the duo's Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus had only intended to track a couple of songs when they entered the recording studio last year, but momentum caught them by surprise and left them with a 10-song LP. "We were apparently a dam that was ready to break," Kuperus said in a statement. "We were writing frantically, as if in a frenzy."

Miller added of Adult.'s current renaissance: "We have never worked better together. We believe this is because we exorcised all of our demons through our past records, we have no baggage, we started anew. We left behind the self-conscious adolescents."

Musically, the set is said to bring back the group's familiar analogue synth arrangements, though Miller notes that the LP is "the closest we have to come to writing traditional 'pop' songs, even though we know they are totally mutants." Kuperus, meanwhile, reported that the lyrics on the set are "personal and universal" and touch on themes of "relationship-related fear."

You can check out an album trailer and the set's first single "Idle (Second Thoughts)" beneath the tracklisting.
