While the Weeknd has got more than a little cinematic in his music videos, he's now set to make his big-screen debut in an upcoming Adam Sandler film.
As Page Six reports, Abel Tesfaye was spotted earlier this week on the set of the Sandler movie Uncut Gems, which is being directed by Good Time filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie.
Apparently, Tesfaye was seen shooting a scene in New York on Monday (October 15). It was reportedly a performance scene with Sandler and rapper Trinidad James the nightclub 1OAK.
"They're filming there and took over for several days. They're shooting a club scene," a source told Page Six.
At this point, though, it's unclear what Tesfaye's exact role is in the movie and whether he's simply playing himself or a character. Whatever his role may be, however, the film will mark the first time the Canadian singer has appeared in a feature film.
Uncut Gems also features co-stars Idina Menzel and Lakeith Stanfield, and it's being produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush. Martin Scorsese is the excutive producer.
The film is said to centre on Sandler as the owner of a jewelry store in New York's Diamond District who has a gambling addiction and needs to find a way to pay off his debts.
As of yet, there's no firm release date for Uncut Gems.
