Let's catch up: in November, an otherwordly monolith — bearing a striking resemblance to the one featured in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey — was discovered in the Utah desert. A few days later, another one appeared in Romania atop Batca Doamnei Hill in the city of Piatra Neamt. The Utah monolith disappeared shortly after (although we now know where it went), and now, its Romanian sister has also mysteriously disappeared.
Local reports from Piatra Neamt indicate that the second monolith vanished sometime yesterday (December 1) after it was installed on November 26. The 13-foot object has been displaced from the ground on which it stood, leaving only a small hole behind. There is no indication so far as to where it went.
Unlike Utah's monolith, no one has come forth to claim responsibility for the Romanian monolith's removal. Additionally, neither object's origin has revealed, so we're not ruling out aliens just yet.
Now that both objects have been taken away, are we due for another to appear somewhere else in the world? Despite what Guy Fieri may have you believe, we've yet to see evidence of a new monolith — so far.
