Rick Mercer has announced that the upcoming season of his wildly popular CBC show The Rick Mercer Report will be his last.
He revealed the news with a video shot in the Toronto alleyway where he delivers his signature weekly rants.
The Canadian show debuted in 2004 (under the title Rick Mercer's Monday Report), delivering a mix of political commentary, satire, sketches and interviews from across the country. It has gone on to win 16 Gemini and Canadian Screen awards.
"It's still the best job in the world. In many ways, I could do it forever," Mercer told his home network, CBC. "But things don't last forever and the shows that I respect the most, they wrap them up on their own terms and that's exactly what I'm doing."
The 15th season begins tomorrow night (September 26) at 8 p.m. ET. The final episode is scheduled to air on April 10, 2018.
Over the last 14 seasons (and a total of 255 episodes), guests on the show have ranged from political figures like Stephen Harper to Canadian entertainment icons like Anne Murray, Jann Arden, Feist, and Rush's Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson.
"Since I was 10, the ultimate goal was my own TV show — that was it," Mercer added. "I've had that and I've loved every minute. So I literally don't know what's next."
