Questlove to Direct Sly Stone Documentary

Earlier this year, Questlove debuted Summer of Love — his directorial debut — at Sundance. Now, he's already lined up his next project. The legendary Roots drummer will direct a new documentary about funk icon Sly Stone.

According to an official announcement, the documentary (which does not yet have a name), will follow a musician "who was breaking all the rules at a time when doing so was extremely challenging, even dangerous. The pressure of explosive mainstream pop success and the responsibility of representing Black America forced him to walk the fine line of impossible expectations."

"It goes beyond saying that Sly's creative legacy is in my DNA —  it's a Black musician's blueprint," Questlove said in a statement. "To be given the honour to explore his history and legacy is beyond a dream for me."

The upcoming film will also be executive produced by Common.
