Netflix has announced the upcoming eight-episode limited series Unbelievable will arrive on September 13. The first trailer has also been unveiled.
The series was inspired by real events and is based on the 2015 Marshall Project and ProPublica article "An Unbelievable Story of Rape" and the This American Life episode "Anatomy of Doubt."
It tells the story of Marie Adler (played by Kaitlyn Dever), a teenager who tells police she was sexually assaulted by a home intruder, but whose family, friends and assigned detectives don't believe her.
Meanwhile, detectives Grace Rasmussen and Karen Duvall (played by Toni Collette and Merritt Wever) are on the other side of the United States, looking into strangely similar incidents that could lead them to a serial rapist.
Susannah Grant serves as the Unbelievable showrunner, while Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Lisa Cholodenko, Ayelet Waldman, Michael Chabon, Katie Couric, Richard Tofel, Neil Barsky, Robyn Semien, and Marie Adler get producer credits.
