Now that Denis Villeneuve's incredibly delayed Dune film is finally coming out, so too is the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. But since just one Dune soundtrack obviously isn't enough, he's hitting us with three of the damn things.
All three of Zimmer's Dune soundtracks will arrive via WaterTower Music, and each will be its own distinct and unique release. Because the more content the better, right?
First, Zimmer will release what's being titled The Dune Sketchbook (Music from the Soundtrack), which will be released digitally on September 3. This release is said to comprise extended musical explorations of the Dune score, and it will be available in both standard and Dolby Atmos Music audio.
Next up will be another digital album called Dune (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), which will contain the film's score. Again, it will arrive in both standard and Dolby Atmos configurations.
And finally, we'll get Zimmer's third Dune soundtrack called The Art and Soul of Dune. This particular release will actually soundtrack a tie-in Dune book written by the film's executive producer Tanya Lapointe, who will shed light on the film's process.
At this point, it's unclear if any of these releases will arrive physically on vinyl or CD, but we're guessing they will at some point.
Right now, you can hear two of Zimmer's Dune pieces — "Paul's Dream" and "Ripples in the Sand" — below. As you could expect, both find Zimmer being his very maximal self.
Of course, Zimmer previously worked with Villeneuve for the director's Blade Runner 2049.
Following a TIFF premiere, Dune will arrive in theatres and on HBO Max on October 22.
