Los Angeles punks X have surprise-released their first new album in 35 years. Titled Alphabetland, the band's latest can be heard in full below.

While X last released their Hey Zeus! LP in 1993, Alphabetland marks the first release from the group's original lineup of vocalist Exene Cervenka, guitarist Billy Zoom, bassist John Doe and drummer D.J. Bonebrake since 1985 album Ain't Love Grand?

X began recording Alphabetland in November 2018 and were prepared to release the album this August. Unlike the many artists who have elected to postpone releases due to the coronavirus pandemic, the band instead pushed the release date forward.

"Let's give people — at least our audience and maybe beyond that — something that is upbeat," bassist Doe told the Los Angeles Times. "Something that's new and vital."

Alphabetland arrives today through Fat Possum Records. The album is available to pre-order in physical formats here.
