A new chapter in Leonardo DiCaprio's '90s hip-hop fandom has been authored after meeting future genre legends, reportedly developing a Q-Tip TV series and testifying at Fugees spitter Pras Michel's conspiracy trial: picking up the mic to rap a Gang Starr smash at his own birthday party.
As E! News reports, Leo threw himself a star-studded birthday bash last weekend (November 11) with a guest list including Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Kim Kardashian, Taika Waititi, Rita Ora, Channing Tatum, Kate Beckinsale, Tobey Maguire and more — all of whom were in attendance to watch him cover Guru and DJ Premier's classic B-side "DWYCK."
That song, which would later appear on the duo's 1994 album Hard to Earn, also features Nice & Smooth, and DiCaprio took on Greg Nice's first verse for his party performance. Mic masters like JAY-Z, 2 Chainz and Snoop Dogg were also reportedly in attendance, and you have to wonder what they thought of his skills.
You can catch DiCaprio's performance [via TMZ] and revisit Gang Starr's "DWYCK" music video in the players below. The song was prominently sampled by Run the Jewels for 2020's "Ooh LA LA."
DiCaprio recently appeared in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. Gang Starr's seventh and final studio LP One of the Best Yet arrived in 2019.
