Legendary Quebec prog metallers Voivod have announced they will treat Montreal to a free show, which will go down September 4. The band, which are prepping for a trio of shows in South America, will headline the free M on the Quays music festival.

The two-day outdoor festival takes place on the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal and is being sponsored by M for Montreal and Sirius Satellite Radio. Other bands playing the festival include Priestess, Winter Gloves, DD/MM/YYYY and Suuns.

Voivod recently returned from a European tour, including UK dates with Nashville Pussy. They are planning a full North American tour before the end of the year, according to their website. The band also recently won the Metal Group of the Year at the 2010 Indie Awards.

Voivod's latest album was 2009's Infini, the second album to be recorded after the death of original guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, using riffs the guitar player recorded before he passed away. The group are currently working with guitarist Dan Mongrain (also of Martyr) on news songs, which they hope will become their next studio album.

Tour dates:

9/4 Montreal QC - M on the Quays (FREE)

9/10 Bogota, Columbia - El Parking Club

9/11 Sao Paulo, Brazil - Clash Club

9/12 Santiago, Chile - Theatro Teleton
