Drake loves rap trends — there are few pop stars (most of whom are in the very lucrative business of biting off whatever the current trend is) who bite quite like Drake does. This habit has seen Drake do a whole bunch of styles to varying degrees of success, but one rap subgenre he has yet to dip his toe into is Insane Clown Posse's face-painted horrorcore.
So it was a bit of a surprise when, back in August, Drake posted a bathroom selfie to Instagram that saw him wearing an Insane Clown Posse jersey. Perhaps he was nodding to the Clowndom, but it kinda seems more likely that he just thought the jersey looked cool. That latter option is certainly what Violent J thinks is the case, and he explained his view on Drake's alleged ICP support during a recent podcast interview.
Speaking with rap radio dude Bootleg Kev, Violent J casts doubt on whether Drake was showing true allegiance to the Juggalo cause with his choice of jersey, calling the outfit nothing more than "a fashion thing."
First of all, I don't give a fuck what anybody said. I don't believe Drake wore that having ever even heard any of our music. I think he wore that as a fashion thing because I think that's what's happening. Over time, you know, we're old school. I seen, in a fashion magazine, an ICP shirt for $500 … It was, like, fashion. It was the design of the shirt… [Drake] had a Ringmaster jersey, which is our second album, the second Joker's Card. What the fuck is Drake doing wearing that?
I mean, he's probably not wrong. If you want to read up on what Drake's been up to in the rap world more recently, you can check out our hot takes review of his latest bloated blockbuster For All the Dogs.
