'Paper Bag Records vs. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust from Mars'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 24, 2012

Last year, artists on the Paper Bag Records roster covered Madonna's True Blue in full. This year, they've done the same with David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, meaning that you can now hear acts like PS I Love You, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, CFCF, Born Ruffians, the Rural Alberta Advantage and more perform songs from the 1972 glam rock classic.

Also, scroll to the bottom of this page to listen to Slim Twig's take on "It Ain't Easy," which preserves the theatrical melodicism of Bowie's version while also giving the track a uniquely atmospheric twist.

It's worth pointing out that Paper Bag Records is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, while Ziggy Stardust turned 40 this year. To ring in a decade of Paper Bag, the label will take over Toronto's Great Hall this week for a series of anniversary shows from September 27 to 29. You can learn more about those shows here.
