The collective groan of Tool fans the world over was heard last month when it appeared the band were in the studio re-recording old songs instead of working on their long-awaited follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days. Now, noted friend of the group Tom Morello has confirmed the album's existence by revealing that he's actually heard some of it.

Taking to Instagram yesterday (December 11), Morello shared a snap of himself with Tool members Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor and Danny Carey in front of a monstrous synthesizer.

"Had the honor of being the first outsider to hear new #TOOL music today!!" his caption read, adding that the vocals of Maynard James Keenan had yet to be recorded.

Morello also helped out music writers everywhere by digging out the thesaurus to describe the tunes as "epic, majestic, symphonic, brutal, beautiful, tribal, mysterious, deep, sexy and VERY Tool."

Over the weekend, drummer Carey told Loudwire that the band are aiming to release the record in 2018, saying "we'll probably have it done in the first half [of the year] if things go as planned. There's setup times and manufacturing – I can never predict all that, it seems like it's constantly evolving. [What time of year it will be out] I can't tell you."
