Noted Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Mike Tyson trainer and accomplished rock and metal vocalist Maynard James Keenan is inviting us to get a grip on his martial art of choice via a new film.
On December 13, Keenan will premiere The Great In Between: An Introduction to Jiu Jitsu via the official website of his band Puscifer.
Directed by Chris Staab and hosted by Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer vocalist, the film also features music by Puscifer and was filmed at the Keenan-founded Verde Valley Brazilian jiu-jitsu studio in Cottonwood, AZ.
An abstract notes that in the film, "Keenan and his team discuss the development of stabilizing muscles and myelin connections that will help you bridge the seemingly un-traversable gap between where you are now and where you could be if you choose to embrace and immerse yourself in this incredible confidence-building, puzzle-solving martial art."
A trailer for the film can be seen below, with Keenan decked out in custom Puscifer BJJ uniform (known as a gi, for aspiring heads).
"You've heard the cliché, 'Those who can't do, teach.' Well, that's me," Keenan says. "I'm not great at jiu-jitsu, but I understand jiu-jitsu and ... how to teach jiu-jitsu. So everything that I've learned over the years ... I feel it's important to give that back as best I can."
The Great In Between is available as a 72-hour rental, while tie-in merch including workout gear, MMA gloves and a poster can be found via Puscifer's official website.
Last month, Keenan finally revealed his favourite tool.
