The aftermath of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour coming to Toronto last month continues to dominate the local news cycle, with everything from friendship bracelets in space and ticket fraud arrests to cat adoptions. Now, as promised, the "Taylor Swift Way" street signs that adorned a route along John Street, Blue Jays Way, Front Street and Queen Street West have been auctioned off for charity, raising over $200,000 for the Daily Bread Food Bank.
Between $103,842.96 from successful bidders and Rogers rounding up its matching contribution to $113,000 as a nod to Swift's favourite number, a $216,842.96 donation has been made to the food bank.
"As presenting sponsor of Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour in Canada, Rogers is proud to partner with the City of Toronto and Daily Bread Food Bank to help raise funds for the critical mission of the food bank," said Jana Masiewich, Head of Partnerships at Rogers, who you would know is the presenting sponsor if you've taken the TTC any time in the last six weeks or so.
According to a news release from Rogers, Maisiewich was present alongside Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie and Daily Bread CEO Neil Hetherington at the food bank's 191 New Toronto Street facility to present the cheque.
The auction for the City of Toronto's 22 — another Swift-anointed numerical value for those living beneath particularly fortified rocks — ceremonial street signs that connected a route between Nathan Philips Square and the Rogers Centre wrapped up last night (December 1). The pop star is set to conclude her record-shattering tour in Vancouver later this week.
