Toronto-based soul powerhouse Tanika Charles has announced a live studio EP The Union Sessions, out July 26 on digital platforms.
The EP, recorded live all in one afternoon session at Union Sound studio in Toronto, features talents well-established and new to the Toronto scene. D/SHON Henderson and Tafari Anthony join Charles on vocals, while J3M handles piano and synth, and members of trip-hop band re.verse, Damian Matthew (bass), Robb Cappelletto (guitar) and Austin Gembora (drums), make up the core band. It was recorded and mixed by engineer Alex Gamble (Alvvays, PUP).
The EP consists of five tracks from Charles's previous albums. After being performed countless times at live shows, the songs have naturally morphed into different versions. Check out the teaser video below for a taste.
The Union Sessions follows 2022's Papillon de Nuit, Charles's third studio album.
Charles has also announced an all-Canadian summer tour, kicking off in Toronto on June 29 and wrapping up with a double-header in Grand Prairie, AB, in August. See the full itinerary below.
