Staff Pick "Bubble 4 a Winna" back in 2023, and later appearing on the JUNO-winning debut BAMBII record Infinity Club, Toronto hip-hop riser Sydanie is back with another preview of her debut album, now expected sometime in 2025.
Today, she offers up "Gyal Dem Diction," which runs a tight minute and 50 seconds, bulked up with highspeed lyrics repping southside Jane Street — which is nice, given all the extra unwanted attention on Toronto mans thanks to, uh, "Wah Gwan Delilah." It's refreshing to get a dose of legitimate Toronto pride amid the tomfoolery just in time for the city's ensuing street festivals and island trips.
On it, Sydanie delivers concentrated flows inspired by "hot summer nights in Toronto on the Jane." As per a release, "the recommended dance move for gyal dem diction is anything with two fingers and your thumb up in the air."
