SUMAC have detailed a new album. The American-Canadian metal trio will share The Healer on June 21.
The Healer's four tracks, running 76 minutes, are said to embody the depth of the human experience, seeking to mirror humanity's endurance of "mortal and spiritual challenges," that grant greater capacity for understanding, empathy, and love on the other side.
"Yellow Dawn" is the first album track to arrive, and you can hear it below. The 12-minute piece opens with Faith Coloccia's meditative organ playing before segueing into tightly-wound riffing, before things are powered into more uplifting, improvisatory territory on the strength of a steady bassline.
The album was recorded and mixed by Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Thrice, Great Falls, Autopsy), and follows SUMAC's 2022 collaboration with Keiji Heino, Into this juvenile apocalypse our golden blood to pour let us never.
SUMAC have also announced summer North American tour dates behind the album, including a lone Canadian stop at Vancouver's Fortune Sound Club alongside Moor Mother — with whom they've recently recorded, per a release — for the city's International Jazz Festival.
