Big Lonely will release their latest LP Bad Magic at the end of the week, but Exclaim! is giving you the chance to hear the whole thing right now.
The group admittedly took "a healthy period of time" to record the album, working with Simon Larochette at the Sugarshack in London, Derek Hoffman at Fox Sounds in Toronto and the band's own Taylor Lucas in Burlington. Lucas also mixed the record at his studio in Toronto.
"Bad Magic is a constant battle between optimism and pessimism," the band tells Exclaim! "At its core, Bad Magic is about the struggle to believe in yourself, even while others may believe in you. It tells a bittersweet story about never giving up, even if you are doomed to try, try, and fail again. Like a magician falling for his own tricks — deep down you know what you're doing is a facade, but it's hard not to believe along with everyone else."
It creates an environment where uplifting songs like "Dreamboat" can co-exist with sadder fare like "Up My Sleeve, delivering a range of sounds and emotion from start to finish.
