SiriusXM Launches Mixtape: North, New Channel for Canadian Hip-Hop and R&B

Its launch coincides the cancellation of CBC Radio 3

CBC Radio 3 is no longer on SiriusXM — a huge blow for Canadian indie musicians across a range of genres, who relied on satellite radio as a key source of revenue. Luckily for hip-hop and R&B artists (as well as labels and rights holders), there's a new satellite channel for Canadian music.

Mixtape: North launched earlier this month on SiriusXM. It's billed as a home for "the greatest home-grown bangers from across Canada, 24/7," featuring both "who's hot now" and "who's up next" in hip-hop and R&B. It's found on channel 164.

An announcement from SiriusXM cites Drake, the Weeknd, Tory Lanez, Jesse Reyez, Kardinal Offishall, k-os and Choclair as the kind of artists who will be played on the channel.

In addition to the cancellation of CBC Radio 3, SiriusXM also axed CBC Country (channel 171), ICI Musique Franco-Country (channel 166) and ICI Musique Chansons (channel 163)

Thanks to Toronto radio host Mastermind, who recently joined Mixtape: North, for the tip.
