Serj Tankian Says System of a Down Has Something Coming "Next Year"

Hopefully he won't go create another fable

Serj Tankian is keeping a secret from System of a Down fans. Despite political differences between him and drummer John Dolmayan, the metal outfit's bandleader said they have something up their sleeves for the new year.

Asked if System have any plans in the near future in an interview with Kyle Meredtith (their last album Hypnotize was released in 2005), Tankian was somewhat apprehensive about answering the question, though he did offer a glimmer of hope to his fans.

"As of now, we haven't talked about anything. We will be making an announcement about something next year that I can't really tell you about," he said. "So there is that. But further than that, I can't really say."

Though he didn't reveal much about what the announcement will entail, he did say that his 2021 solo single "Elasticity" was originally meant for a System of a Down record, but when it fell through, he released it under his own name.

"When I conceived possibly doing another record with the guys from System of a Down a few years back, I started working on a set of songs that I arranged in rock format for that purpose," he said. "As we weren't able to see eye to eye on the vision going forward with a System of a Down album, I decided to release these songs under my moniker."

If a new System album is coming, perhaps some of the lyrics will be ripped straight from books. In the meantime, let's hope the number of people "scaring the shit" out of Tankian in public doesn't go up.
