When the lobby music came down, Daniel Smith and his band of boy/girl scouts calmly and humbly took the stage to tune up. Sparing the rock-star grand entry, but not sparing the rock, Danielson's unique sound got more than one fist pumping or foot stomping. Reminiscent of Geddy Lee's unique tenor, Daniel chirped through a short but sweet collection of quirky folk-rock-arranged gospel songs, always culminating with an enthusiastic "Merci" or occasionally a curious quote from some unwritten cartoon narrative. No wonder this is one of Matt Groening's favourite bands. They may be one of Montreal's new favourites, too.
