Danielson Famile's Daniel Smith Wrote Some Righteous Christian Hair Metal Songs for the New Movie 'Electric Jesus'

The fictional band 316 sounds an awful lot like Stryper

Daniel Smith has spent decades making weird outsider Christian music under the names Danielson, Danielson Famile, Br. Danielson and many others. Now, he's lent his expertise of the niche subgenre to a movie about Christian rock, with some seriously righteous results.

While Danielson's music was decidedly out-there indie pop (which also helped launch Sufjan Stevens' career), Smith has showcased a knowledge of early Christian hair metal in the soundtrack for the upcoming film Electric Jesus.

The film was directed by Chris White, and it follows a band called 316 who make some waves in the 1980s Christian metal scene. Thanks to Smith's songs, which are pure Stryper worship, you can hear why people pay attention.

Watch the trailer for Electric Jesus below, along with three of Smith's 316 hair metal songs. The film's soundtrack will arrive on February 26 via Joyful Noise.
