Montreal duo Mayfly have shared the "Black Water" — the first single and video off of their forthcoming debut album.
Composed of singer-songwriters Charlie and Emma, Mayfly's first full-length record is slated to arrive in October via Duprince Records.
The single explores what it means to go unnoticed when struggling with deteriorating mental health. In the video, we see two distinct but parallel universes collide — one wherein the duo's hurt and distress are invisible to the rest.
Over the last year, Mayfly have been perfecting a more mature, darker sound; self-producing all artistic, visual and creative aspects of their project.
'"Black Water" is one of our most honest and vulnerable works to date," the duo said in a statement. "We are opening up on some of the darkest moments that both of us have gone through mentally. We tried to illustrate in the most visually striking and realest way possible, how someone can be without anyone noticing or reaching out."
Of the single, they added: "In a way, we want to help those who have felt the same way as us to be heard and seen and know that it's okay to go through certain periods of mental instability. One way to get out of this is to reach out and ask for help. Although it may seem extremely difficult, it's necessary and will bring a positive outcome to let others know what is going on."
