Model of Jimi Hendrix's Penis by Cynthia Plaster Caster to Be Displayed at Iceland Museum

The cast of the rock star's little wing will be unveiled next month

Following the death of penis-modeller-to-the-stars Cynthia Plaster Caster (born Cynthia Albritton) back in April, one of her early works is about to debut at a museum in Iceland: the Icelandic Phallological Museum is set to bare Albritton's cast of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix's erect penis to the world next month.

While on tour in Chicago in February 1968, Hendrix was actually the first celebrity client for the artist and self-described "recovering groupie." She told Rock Scene Magazine a decade ago [via Blabbermouth]:

[Hendrix] was my first real rock star that dipped his dick and it was unbelievable. We were the groupies that got to the hotel first and we were the only groupies in Jimi Hendrix's room. It wasn't our very first cast. I had tried it on a few civilians first to be ready for Jimi. He's my biggest — no, he's not my biggest, there are "bigger-ish'" others. But I couldn't say whether or not he's my most exciting, because they're my sweet babies and I am their mama and I'm very democratic with all my babies. I don't like to play favourites; I love them all. The experiences were equally exciting and weird and different from each other.

Albritton had come up with the idea of casting erect penises in a college art class upon realizing that the softened phallus would withdraw itself from the plaster. She went on to do casts of Ariel Pink, Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley, Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra, MC5's Wayne Kramer and Dennis Thompson and many more, even expanding her practice to breasts with the likes of Peaches, Stereolab's Laetitia Sadie and Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O.

"It is with feelings of sadness and pride that the Phallological Museum announces that prior to passing, Cynthia ʹPlaster Casterʹ Albritton decided to donate to the museum with one of a few casts of Jimi Hendrix," the institution wrote in a tweet yesterday (May 23).

Located in Reykjavík, the sausage factory — er, museum — is described on its website as "probably the only museum in the world to contain a collection of phallic specimens belonging to all the various types of mammal found in a single country."
