M.I.A. Leaks New Song

UPDATE: M.I.A.'s label, Interscope, has confirmed that the new track is indeed done by her and will appear on her upcoming new album. The song is called "Space Odyssey," not "There's Space For Ol Dat I See," and stems from her recent anger at the New York Times.

The last we heard from M.I.A., she was hard at work on her new, non-"hipstery" album with producers Diplo and Blaqstarr. The Sri Lankan rapper born Maya Arulpragasam has been taking to her Twitter quite a bit since then, dropping a rant on the New York Times and, more recently, a brand new song.

First off, M.I.A. attacked the Times' recent declaration that Sri Lanka was the top choice for a vacation in 2010. Besides the repeated, all-caps "FUCK NEW YORK TIMES" declarations, she posted some graphic images of children being hung, adding "HERE IS THE LUSH COASTLINE THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT."

After Tweeting a major bummer like that, M.I.A. cheered her followers up with a post of what looks like a brand new song supposedly called "There's Space For Ol Dat I See." As Stereogum points out, M.I.A. posted the track on TwitVid today (January 12) with little other information. Both the song and video are pretty minimal, with a green-lit M.I.A. singing softly over a minimal electronic beat. Check it out below.

Still no word on a release date for M.I.A.'s new album, but it is expected to drop this summer.
