Mariposa Folk Festival Gets Matt Andersen, Bruce Cockburn for 2017 Edition

Ontario's long-running Mariposa Folk Festival is set to celebrate its own contributions to Canada's folk and roots music heritage, in addition to Canada's 150th anniversary, with its 2017 edition this summer. To get the ball rolling, festival organizers have announced three Canadian headliners that will help them celebrate.

Topping the bill are Matt Andersen and Bruce Cockburn, all of whom have played the festival in the early stages of their careers. 

The festival will also feature a special presentation on its closing evening that will pay homage to one of Canada's most celebrated acts. The Last Waltz – a Musical Celebration of the Band – Live will feature a nine-piece "all-star band" and special guests paying tribute to the Band under the direction of of Juno award winning producer and musical director Lance Anderson.

"This is just a taste of the rich artistic lineup coming together for Mariposa Folk Festival 2017," the festival's artistic director Mike Hill said in a statement. "We look forward to making dozens more exciting announcements over the coming days and weeks."

The 2017 edition of the Mariposa Folk Festival is set to take place from July 7 to 9 in Orillia's Tudhope Park. All ticket tiers are on sale now, with children under 12 admitted free of charge. Tent and RV camping is available on the festival site.
