Beyoncé surprised the world yesterday (February 11) by announcing her new record Act II in a Super Bowl ad, dropping the singles "TEXAS HOLD 'EM" and "16 CARRIAGES" as it aired. Turns out, the project has ties to Canada, as our very own Lowell co-wrote the track about Bey's home state.
In recent years, the indie pop musician has turned to writing songs for movie scores and co-writing for the likes of Tate McRae, Backstreet Boys and Madison Beer. In a TikTok posted last night, she revealed that she helped write "TEXAS HOLD 'EM," writing, "Grew up in Calgary the country capital of Canada... Rodeo'd my way to Hollywood!"
The news is confirmed by Spotify's credits for the song, which lists Lowell (whose full name is Elizabeth Lowell Boland) as a songwriter.
The video itself shows her and a friend dancing to the track in her kitchen, and you can tell they're both pumped. It's super wholesome! Watch it below.
