Since releasing her sophomore LP Melodrama earlier this year, Lorde has blessed us with a "Homemade Dynamite" remix and a Phil Collins cover, so it's understandable that some fans thought they might be getting some more fresh material when the New Zealand singer posted a 20-second snippet of music on Twitter this morning (October 2).

She cryptically tweeted out the words "will u love me? will u?" and followed it up with a brief sound clip featuring breathy vocals singing "I just want your heartbreaking love" — spawning rumours that a new song was on the way.

She returned to Twitter a few hours later, though, to shut down speculation about a new single. As she explained, the snippet of previously unheard music is "just an old melo sketch."

Lorde hasn't totally ruled out turning the demo into something more in the future, but it seems like we'll be waiting a while longer to see if that ever happens.
