Lifestory: Monologue

Drag Your White Fur, Make It Grey

BY Travis PersaudPublished Nov 8, 2011

Drag Your White Fur proves Lifestory:Monologue's Thornberry EP, released earlier this year, wasn't a fluke. The strong three-song collection was a window into what their debut full-length would hold. Coming out of the same recording session with Moneen's Kenny Bridges, the ten tracks, including the EP's "Thornberry" and "The Sound That Love Makes," show a sextet that have, over the past six years, honed their raw talent to showcase a unified sound. "Candles," a song the band have played at shows for the past few years, comes to life on the disc, with the combination of aggressive and melodic vocals during the chorus raising it to a euphoric level they've never before touched. And on "Stations," they perfect the balance, with sultry, soft vocals interspersed between talk/scream sections. Each song on White Fur starts from a simple note or beat, with Lifestory using each building block to create something different at every turn with excellence. They've set a new benchmark for themselves with this release.
