Lifestory: Monologue

The Thornberry

Guelph, ON's Lifestory: Monlogue entered the studio for pre-production almost a year ago. The result will eventually be heard on Drag Your White Fur ― Make It Grey, but until then, the six-piece give a brief glimpse of what to expect on this three-song EP. Lifestory move a step or two away from their earlier mewithoutyou-influenced style and a step or two closer to Moneen. While that could be a lazy comparison, as Kenny Bridges (Moneen's frontman) manned the controls for these sessions, "The Coward" is a band-proclaimed "Moneen-esque" track. The singing parts have Bridge's vocal print all over it, while Lifestory add their touch with screaming sections and racing riffs. "Thornberry" shows off a softer side, with beautiful vocal melodies and tantalizing rhythms. And while this EP is a departure from what most are used to from the band, they don't completely abandon the talk-scream style of their past; it pops up during this track momentarily and there's a heavier dose of it on the last song, "The Sound That Love Makes." This is a short, but encouraging taste of what's to come from Lifestory: Monologue.
